A Message to the Doll Community
If you’ve been in the BJD or SmartDoll community for any length of time, you’ve probably noticed something: Canadians are everywhere, supporting your shops, entering your giveaways, sharing your content, and cheering you on. We’ve poured countless dollars into American doll artists, creators, and businesses, often paying extra for the privilege through brutal exchange rates, high shipping costs, and ridiculous customs fees—sometimes upwards of $250. And most of the time? We don’t even complain.
But here’s the thing: Canadians have always built up everyone else. Now, it’s time we build ourselves up, too.
If you’re a Canadian collector, creator, or business owner, look local first. We can’t grow a thriving Canadian doll community if we don’t actively support it. That means shopping from Canadian sellers, sharing their work, tagging them in your posts, and submitting their names to Canadian directories like www.canadian-bjd-collectors.com. Even something as simple as a shoutout in your Instagram story can make a difference.
We can’t expect community growth if we’re always looking outside our own borders. Buying local strengthens our market. Promoting local creators helps them get seen. Choosing a Canadian for your next commission or purchase instead of importing from overseas creates a ripple effect that lifts all of us.
And if you’re reading this from the U.S. or elsewhere this isn’t just about Canada. If you care about your Northern neighbors, this is your moment. Canadians have supported your artists, shops, and community leaders for years. We’ve bought your dolls, attended your conventions, and paid every fee without hesitation. Supporting Canadian creators in return is more than kind it’s overdue.
With the way things are shifting politically, economically, and socially around the world, now is the time to go full force in helping each other especially those right next door.
So before your next purchase, ask yourself:
- Is there a Canadian I can support instead?
- Can I recommend a Canadian shop or creator to someone else?
- Have I submitted someone to the Canadian BJD Collector Directory?
-Can I shout out a Canadian I’ve worked with lately?
It starts with each of us. Let’s stop helping everyone else while ignoring what’s right here at home. Let’s build Canadian together.
